We will introduce the concept of representability in the framework of the quantum N-body problem. More particularly, we will study the case of N electrons in the field of a finite number of clamped nuclei. After introducing two reduced quantities — the one-body reduced density matrix kernel, and the one-body reduced density function —, we will give the very basics of ground-state density-functional theory. For this first session, this will lead us to define what is meant by representability in this context.
