We address the esssential physical notions for understanding the subject of the dynamics of a quantum system out of equilibrium. We are mainly interested in the physics of ultra-cold atomic gases, but also in the various mathematical concepts underlying their theoretical description. We accompany our ideas with equations and figures that help to understand key ideas.
